A vacation in Croatia, as well as on the island of Krk, is an excellent choice for all Mediterranean climate lovers. The island of Krk offers plenty of natural and cultural sights and attractions none of us are in the mood to visit during high temperatures. Along with rich cultural and historical heritage, many tourists are drawn by numerous natural attractions, intact nature, from photogenic coves, through fertile fields and thick forests, submediterranean vegetation, karst, all the way to the real mountain landscape.
Natural attractions
Lake Njivice is the biggest natural sweet water habitat on the island of Krk. It is an important bird habitat, and it offers a special sensation in spring and autumn when you can experience an intense songbird migration. Prvić island across from Baška, is a breathtaking botanical and ornithological reserve! It’s a true piece of paradise of intact nature not far from civilization. The green Prniba peninsula is ideal for those wanting an active vacation! The beauty of lone coves, natural intact beaches, and cliffs accompanied by cries of seagulls and the murmur of the sea is what makes this island important to mention and visit.
Rich culture and history
We recommend visiting the Frankopan castle in the town of Krk. Authentic stone passages, nine hundred years old, have been partly renovated and transformed into showrooms. The next recommended visit should be to the monastery and the church of St. Lucy where the Baška tablet was found. You must visit the Fulfinum Mirine not far from Omišalj, the latin cross-shaped basilica along the very coast and the walls of an early Christian basilica from the end of the 5th century. This is the only such sacral object on the island of Krk, on the Croatian coast and the biggest in the Mediterranean.
Beautiful clean sea and heavenly beaches
The island of Krk is called the blue flag island. A total of 15 beaches proudly fly blue flags as proof of sea and coastal cleanliness, confirmation of the service quality standards. Thanks to the mild Mediterranean climate the swimming season starts in spring and ends in autumn. Most coves and beaches are connected by promenades offering lots of content, such as sporting content, children’s parks, cafe’s and clubs and such.
