The best food and restaurants on the Island f Krk

It’s a well-known fact you can’t leave the island of Krk hungry, the reason being the delicious home cuisine you can try in many restaurants, taverns and pizzerias.

If we start with appetizers, do not go home until you’ve tried homemade sheep cheese and prosciutto. Sheep cheese is a whole, hard cheese and an autochthonous Croatian island cheese. A special feature of the prosciutto is that it is cured in wild island herbs, it’s not smoked, it’s matured in its skin and it’s dried in the island wind- bora.

Seafood is definitely specific for the Krk area so you can find fresh fish, shrimp, crabs, squid, octopus and shells in most menus. If you’re not a fan of seafood, you can always choose something else. We recommend the lamb, unique due to sheep pasturage on Krk. Whether it’s skewed, grilled or baked under the lid, you will lick your fingers.

Then there is the famous pasta, so-called šurlice, made of homemade dough, that goes great with goulashes and sauces.

The specialties of Krk are unique for the condiments used in their preparation. You can taste the aromas of rosemary, bay leaf, parsley, basil, garlic and other herbs. Along with homemade olive oil, irreplaceable in any autochthonous recipe, the food gets a special taste leaving you wanting more and more…
