Get to know Kvarner while staying on the Island of Krk

ISLANDS OF CRES, LOŠINJ, RAB

Towns of Lopar on the island of Rab, and Merag on Cres, can be reached by ferry from a place called Valbiska on Krk within 20 minutes.

Cres and Lošinj are connected by a drawbridge, and Lošinj and Mali Lošinj are also connected by a drawbridge. Have in mind that the drawbridges open and close at certain times.

Rab, the so-called “Happy island”, is separated from the land by the Velebit channel, and it is surrounded by many other islets. As much as 30% of the island is covered in vegetation, so due to its greenery, it’s also called the emerald island. Lopar on Rab is a dolphin habitat so you might be lucky enough to see them. The sandy Rajska beach (Heaven beach) in Lopar was ranked #10 world’s most beautiful beaches in 2012.

Cres is the biggest and most scarcely inhabited island. It’s the habitat of a very rare and protected bird- the griffon vulture. If you love recreation, sports or long walks into the sunset, this island will not leave you aloof.

Lošinj is known as the island of vitality. With more than 200 sunny days throughout the year and the highest air quality and sea cleanliness, it was proclaimed a health resort.

All of these islands tell historical stories, they are rich in cultural heritage, especially little churches, convents and palaces, they hide a richness of vegetative and animal world and customs you have to get to know.

CRIKVENICA, RIJEKA, OPATIJA

If you decide to go on land, we recommend you visit Crikvenica, Rijeka and Opatija.

The area around Crikvenica attracts tourist with its numerous beaches and long promenades, viewing points that offer an unforgettable view of the whole Kvarner bay and a mixture of sea and mountain air.

The biggest city in Kvarner and the biggest Croatian port, Rijeka, is located in the center of Kvarner and only about 50km away from Krk. No matter what time of the year you visit, you will have something to see. Rijeka is a great choice if you’re planning to do some shopping, and the young people, eager to see the Kvarner nightlife, will love it. 

Rich in numerous hotels, fairy tail villas and gardens, beautiful parks and beaches, Opatija is an inevitable destination of every hedonist. It is most famous for its promenade Lungomare, long as far as 12km.

There is so much to see, experience, taste and get to know in this Kvarner area that you probably won’t have enough time anyway. What you don’t get to see this year, you will see next year
